About the author

Ria Om Shandilya is a Pianist, Author, Educator, and Music creator who studied music at Trinity College London and is an alumna of the Delhi School of Music. Her musical journey began at the age of 8 and led her to become a professional pianist by 16.

What sets Ria apart is her commitment to bridging a gap: the lack of professionally written sheet music for Hindi songs, compared to the abundance of detailed Western notations. She creates high-quality Indian sheet music with the same precision, elegance, and accessibility expected of Western resources.

Through her work, Ria aims to make Hindi music more approachable for learners while honoring its depth and beauty.

What I truly admire about your book is your firm commitment to traditional music standards. By staying true to authentic notation, you are guiding students in the right direction from the very beginning. I would also like to specially appreciate the appendix section — it is wonderfully presented, clearly answering common doubts. Additionally, mentioning the scale for each song is extremely useful for students and educators alike. This is genuinely a significant contribution to the music education community.

I found this book on Amazon and was totally impressed! I am a piano teacher based in Bangalore and was in search of a good music practice log book. I'm sure off late you are getting lots of orders, mostly from my students.

My student Vihaan brought your recent book to his lesson. I am happy to find Indian melodies I can share with my piano students! Several students now have requested copies — it seems they are all familiar with the films and the songs. Thank you for making the music accessible!

"I have purchased 4 of your books to try to connect with my Samdhan and Samdhi. My son-in-law and his brother think that I should record some to share on YouTube — 'white woman plays Bollywood' — so I must thank you for your excellent work. Music is a great way to connect."

A note from Ria — Thank you so much, Kathleen! Your message genuinely moved me. The fact that music is bridging cultures and bringing your family closer together — that is exactly why I do this work. I hope you and your granddaughter find many melodies to share. 🎵
